Emily was born and raised in Virginia and Maryland. A student of design, history, and style from an early age, her dream was to live in NYC.
She moved there at age 18 to attend New York University. After spending a year studying abroad in Paris she graduated with a B.A. in Art History and French.
She started her design career in the film industry, where she spent several years working in the art department on tv shows and feature films including "The Royal Tenenbaums", “Maid in Manhattan”, “Empire”, “Now and Again”, and "Serendipity".
She shifted her focus to residential interiors in 2003 after completing an interior design program at Parsons the New School for Design and started Purple Martin Interiors in 2006.
She relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2016 where she lives in a 1959 ranch house with her family including an assortment of pets.
